Pete’s Harbor a new residential development in Redwood city, CA is located along the waterfront. This site is underlain by very deep Bay Mud and any increase in weight will cause settlement. It is very common on sites like this for the building to be supported on Piles and over time the surrounding soils settle away from the buildings. The site is being raised 5’ due to future sea level rise and hence lightweight fill was employed to arrest the settlement of the site around the buildings. 23,000 CY of Cellular concrete was combined with deep soil mixing (for a buried sea wall) and deep foundations supporting the structures to create a stable site where the buildings and the surrounding landscaping stay together long into the future.
